Storm aim for final flourish

It’s the last match in the fixture list for Surrey Storm tonight before they head to the playoffs and Storm need to complete the win in order to finish top of the Co-operative Netball Superleague and secure home advantage for their playoff match.

Bottom of the table Loughborough Lightning are the opposition and Storm should find securing the points a matter of course if the form books are anything to go by but Lightning Head Coach Olivia Murphy will ensure her young side will be prepared to give Storm a tough tussle. Last time out in February England under 19 keeper Layla Guscoth stole the show as Storm battled out a 53-38 victory in Guildford, now the league leaders are ready to complete the season top of the league.

Storm have sat top of the table all season and Head Coach Mary Beardwood not only wants a win, but a performance of the highest order ahead of the playoffs, she stated; “The squad are determined to finish top, it’s very important we focus on getting the result we want and I also want to see our players performing the kind of netball I know they can deliver”.

There are places up for grabs too. Beardwood has a handful of options and combinations to choose from for that all-important playoff match, which is expected to be versus Team Bath if results go as expected. Every player wants to be part of the big occasion, she added; “It’s great I have so many players competing to be part of the starting 7 and every member of the squad has really played their part this season, selection has been competitive for every match which is fantastic but first things first, we must get the win tonight and focus on this”.

Tonight’s match starts at 7.30pm at Loughborough University.
