Storm’s England players selected for Commonwealth Games Squad
England Netball announced the 12-strong squad that will be travelling to Delhi in October to challenge Australia for the Gold Medal.
Once again Sonia Mkoloma was named as Co-Captain and the defender who has recently returned from playing for New South Wales Swifts in Sydney stated; “I am so pleased and proud to be named as Co-Captain and travelling to Delhi. It’s going to be exciting leading a group of such talented netballers to the games”.
Sonia is joined by Tamsin Greenway, Rachel Dunn and Geva Mentor who all played their part in Surrey Storm’s first successful season in Superleague and nobody is happier to be selected than the Storm fans’ favourite Tamsin Greenway who said; “It’s been a year long build up and I have trained really hard so I am really thrilled. I have had loads of help and support this year, especially from Surrey Storm which has really helped me, and it’s my first Commonwealth Games so I am really excited!”
Shooter Rachel Dunn who notched up a massive 774 goals for Storm this season continued her fine year securing a seat on the plane and finally it’s been quite a year for defender Geva Mentor.
After missing out on the playoffs with Storm having flown to Adelaide to play for the Thunderbirds down under, Geva went on to win the ANZ Championships with the Adelaide side and was also named player of match at the grand final.
England’s netballers won bronze to mark the sport’s Games’ debut in 1998 and repeated that feat in 2006 in Melbourne. Sue Hawkins, England National Coach is confident the team will succeed in Delhi, she stated; “The team of 12 will represent all netballers in England and we are committed to showing the world that England is a force to be reckoned with”.
