Surrey Storm sign Janet Coulburne
Janet, originally from Portland in Jamaica has spent the past 9 years living in London and has represented both Jamaica and England and competed for England in the 2003 World Championships.
The 36 year is old defender will bring further experience and quality to the Storm side and will be reunited with many old faces at Surrey Storm.
Janet has played alongside recent Storm signing Natalie Seaton at former Superleague side Mavericks and alongside England shooter Rachel Dunn. She has also competed in 2 Superleague finals for her former side Mavericks.
It is a long awaited return to action for Janet who has not competed in the Superleague since 2007 but she cannot wait to hit the ground running with the league leaders; “I’m really excited about joining Surrey Storm,” she stated. “I’ve been watching Superleague and Storm on Sky and it’s great to be back part of the league and joining the team at the top of the table”.
Head Coach Mary Beardwood knows Coulburne well. The two have formerly worked together at Middlesex County where they became inter county champions, Beardwood added; “Janet brings so much experience and quality and we are thrilled she has joined us during the transfer window. We already have such great strength and depth defensively and now that has been strengthened even further”.
Surrey Storm Franchise Director Jason Harborow added; “Much talk has been about how our defensive end would struggle when Geva and Sonia left to go to the ANZ but we always knew that that not only do we have great defensive players in our squad such as Hannah Reid and Jaime Galley but Mary, the team and the Storm could sign further players of calibre and quality. We welcome Janet to the squad with enthusiasm and I can’t wait for the rest of the season”.
