Surrey Storm’s Under 15 side earned a silver medal at England Netball’s inaugural Under 15 Performance Tournament in Wolverhampton last weekend!

The squad, led by Julie House, Beverley Bostock and Helen Emmanuel, lost a hard-fought final against Manchester Thunder at the University of Wolverhampton, but remained rightly proud of their efforts across the two-day competition.

The weekend also saw a series of athlete-and-parent workshops run by the Youth Sports Trust, UK Anti-Doping and England Netball, with an emphasis on athlete development and support.

The first day brought victories against Saracens Mavericks, Wasps and Team Bath, with a 27-16 win against the latter confirming top spot in their qualification group – which also featured London Pulse – and a semi-final place. It was a real team effort, with every member of the squad playing at least four quarters across the four group games.

An impressive Leeds Rhinos team faced Storm in a thrilling semi-final, going goal-for-goal for much of the game, until the final quarter when Storm pulled away to secure victory by eight goals.

Thunder had dominated their own group the day before, and were themselves worthy finalists. Storm matched their opponents for the first-half but Thunder exerted themselves into the third and fourth quarters to put the gold medal out of Storm’s reach.

As a result of her own outstanding performance over the weekend, Storm Under 15 captain Sophie Kelly has been invited to attend England Roses’ Academy Camp.
