Celtic Dragons 43 Surrey Storm 44

Storm complete the comeback against the Celtic Dragons to steal the win at the Season Opener.

Mikki Austin’s team were trailing for three quarters, but a resilient performance was rewarded with a win in Birmingham.

It was the Dragons who started the game on top, and a slow start for Storm resulted in a Celtic lead.

The second quarter was a game of runs, with some impressive defensive plays from Niamh Cooper, but it was Dragons who held a five-point lead at the break.

Some tactical changes from Mikki Austin looked to improve the Storm performance, as they stayed within touching distance of the Dragons all the way to the final minutes.

A flurry of five consecutive Storm goals tied up the game, and Karyn Bailey held her nerve to win the game for Storm.

Mikki Austin said: “It was a really tough game, I give a lot of credit to Celtic Dragons they were measured throughout the game.

“We were on the backfoot for the majority of the game.

“I’m really pleased and proud of our mental toughness, but we would have learned a lot about each other from this.”

Storm are back in action on Monday 2nd March as we take on London Pulse at SSP.
