Champions prepare in Team Bath Tri-Tournament

Surrey Storm’s 2016 long squad enjoyed mix successes in Team Bath’s Pre-Season Tri-Tournament between Team Bath and Hertfordshire Mavericks, with one win and one defeat.

Tamsin Greenway took a squad of 14 down to the University of Bath for the short-format tournament, with teams playing each other once in games of four, ten-minute quarters.

With four, pre-determined squads for each half, the tournament made for ideal competitive preparation as Greenway whittles down the long squad to defend the Netball Superleague title.

All teams featured new and returning players, with opportunities for Storm’s Yasmin Parsons, Fran Williams, Olivia Emanus and Elsa Wakeman to impress alongside 10 of last year’s title winning squad.

With plenty of variety in combinations on court, Storm opened the tournament with a 30-24 win over Mavericks in a tight game which saw both sides win 2 quarters a-piece.

The hosts however started strong against Storm after also defeating Mavericks earlier in the day, and finished 30-25 winners despite a late comeback from Storm.

Greenway’s girls now continue pre-season training at the University of Surrey Sports Park before the final squad gets announced towards the end of this month.
