Recap

Surrey Storm were defeated 43-56 by BenecosMavericks at Surrey Sports Park.

Mavericks got off to a strong start in this first home clash of the season for Storm, securing a three-point lead within the opening minutes of the match.  There was some strong comebacks from Storm throughout the quarter but unfortunately Mavericks managed to hold on to that lead throughout, ending the quarter with a score of 12-15.

Mavericks then widened that lead very quickly in the second quarter, despite the strong pressure from Surrey Storm’s defensive unit.  Our shooters remained consistent in the second quarter and when the ball made it into the shooting circle, it was almost certainly converted into a goal.  The halftime score was 22-30 for Mavericks.

There were many Storm interceptions in the third quarter, which made the game move at a much quicker pace as they upped the pressure on Mavericks.  Storm’s defensive and midcourt units moved with great precision and fed the balls into the shooters, who delivered shot after shot.  The end of the third quarter saw Mavericks lead 36-43.

The defensive pressure continued into the final quarter, with both teams going goal for goal at the start.  With a few changes on court, Mavericks began to pull a bigger lead.  The defensive unit of Jo Trip and Lorraine Kowalewska made it difficult for them to get the ball into the shooting circle.  However, when they made it in, they never missed.  Despite an incredible battle from our girls, the final score was 43-56.
