Surrey Storm suffered defeat at the hands of Wasps Netball in the Vitality Netball Superleague.

With the Tom Reseigh Trophy up for grabs, Wasps Netball’s Georgia Fisher was first to start off the scoring, but Sigi Burger rapidly returned with a home side goal, making way for what was to be a close first quarter.

Some strong Storm defence from Jo Trip and Katy Holland in the opposition’s attacking third saw some positive turnovers for Storm, forcing Fisher to shoot from afar. However, Wasps were able to orchestrate a 5-point lead heading into the second period of the game.

Storm came out strong in the second quarter and once again the solid combination of Holland and Trip continued to create turnovers in the Wasps shooting circle. Storm managed to claw back the deficit and got within 3 points of the visitors.

Although Storm couldn’t hold on following some clinical work from Wasps, they extended their lead by 9 to go into half time 22 – 31.

The second half made for a similar story, with the narrative led by defensive talent from both sides. But it was Storm that was making the conversion mistakes, allowing Wasps Netball to build their advantage over the Surrey side by an impressive 18 points.

The final quarter left Surrey Storm with plenty of work to do. Despite some impressive long shots from Charmaine Baard and relentless defence from Lorraine Kowalewska and Trip, it proved too much for the girls in blue and they had to settle for defeat at the hand of the current Vitality Netball Superleague reigning Champions.
