London Pulse 40 Surrey Storm 42

Surrey Storm begin the 2021 Superleague with a derby win against London Pulse!

Young gun Sophie Kelly stole the show in her Superleague debut, as the 17-year-old picked up the player of the match award!

Storm started the game strongly, taking a commanding 7-1 lead.

Northern Irish Goal Attacker Emma Magee unfortunately picked up an injury and had to leave the game after just three minutes.

Young Sophie Kelly substituted into the game to make her Superleague debut and continued the impressive start for Storm, as they led 12-8 at the end of the opening quarter!

A fantastic defensive display from Alima Priest and Leah Middleton shut down Sigi Burger for stretches of the first half.

But the former Storm shooter took control in the second period to draw Pulse back into the contest.

Mikki Austin’s Storm took a 23-21 lead into the half-time interval.

Pulse came out stronger in the third quarter and took the lead thanks to some impressive shooting from Burger.

But Sophie Kelly and Karyn Bailey continued to convert for Storm to keep the match neck and neck.

Pulse took a 33-32 lead into the final quarter of play.

Some resilient defending from Leah Middleton and Alima Priest helped to stop Pulse in their track, as Sophie Kelly and Karyn Bailey were efficient in attack.

Storm were able to hold firm to pick up a 40-42 win in the London Derby!

We’re back in action tomorrow evening as we take on Saracens Mavericks!
