LORRAINE’S BACK

Surrey Storm is delighted to announce the re-signing of Lorraine Kowalewska for the 2019 Vitality Netball Superleague Season.

Kowalewska (nee Betsy), re-signs for a third consecutive season to add to her distinguished Superleague career with Storm and previously Celtic Dragons.

She spoke of her return to Storm this season and the prospect of training with Fast-5 signing Sharni Layton: “I’m thrilled to re-sign for Storm for the 2019 season. It will be great to build on connections from last season and make new ones.

“I’m also looking forward to playing alongside and against some legendary players this season.”

Before joining Storm, Lorraine took a short break from the game to raise her first child, she told us how much her family impacted on her choice to return to the Surrey franchise: “I always want to play netball, but it’s never an easy decision to make because I have a family to think about.

“However, having the support from them, the players, coaches and the school where I work, it has made it a much easier decision. I think you have to take every opportunity you are given, especially as I know I won’t be able to play at this level forever.”

The defensive player had some standout performances on court despite some tough losses last season, but she took a lot of positives from 2018. “I learnt a lot from last season about being a better player for the team.

Having more court time has given me the mindset to keep going and battle it out till the end. I think as a team we need to rebuild and grow as a new Storm family this season.”

When asked what Lorraine thinks fans should expect from the new Storm this season, she said confidently, “Expect more grit, fearless players and of course lots of smiles! We have nothing to lose and we will do whatever it takes to get better results for the fans and ourselves.

“As a new team, we are going to need to adapt quickly in each game and support each other on and off the court… Duck Egg Blue for life!”

Mikki Austin admired for Kowalewska’s dedication to the sport and told us how her re-signing was an easy decision to make.

“I’m really excited to have Lorraine back on board with us this year. For me, Lorraine was one of our standout players last season, and she really made a full commitment to improving her game and changing her lifestyle to fit around her netball development.

Her hard work has really paid off and she has continued that into this pre-season, so I’m excited to see her go from strength to strength in 2019.”
