Report: Severn Stars 66-62 Surrey Storm

A full 60 minute battle at the University of Worcester Arena saw Severn Stars take a 66-62 win over Surrey Storm.

A strong run in the opening quarter gave Storm early confidence to lead 13-15 at the first break. Stars flew out of the blocks in Q2 to take a 21-16 lead but Storm were not willing to give up that easily as Megan Craig came into her own to level the scores at 29-all at half time.

An end to end 3rd quarter meant that neither side was able to take a clear advantage for much of the period. Stars’ shooter Ellie Cardwell, who was on fine form throughout, managed to secure two late turnovers to give her side a 50-45 lead at the whistle but it was far from game over.

Storm battled from there onwards. Shooters at both ends of the court were on form but as time ticked down Surrey were struggling to get the key turnovers, and Stars held on for a 66-62 victory – vital in keeping their top 4 hopes alive.
