Surrey Storm are thrilled to announce the return of Sophia Candappa for the upcoming 2022 Superleague campaign.
Candappa returns to Storm for the first time since 2016 where the wing attack previously won the netball Superleague.
The 28 year old’s magic would then follow her to Wasps netball where she would go on to win back to back titles under head coach Tasmin Greenway.
Looking forward to return Sophia commented “I am really excited at the opportunity to return to Storm for the 2022 season.
“I loved my time with the club in 2016 and I’m really looking forward to playing in front of the amazing supporters at SSP again.”
Not only can Candappa play with speed, game smarts and the ability to withstand pressure. She is also a born leader as she captained Wasps netball last year before concluding her season falling pregnant with her second child.
The wing attack said: “I love being an athlete mum and I am a big believer in women being able to return to playing professional sport after having children.
“I am fortunate to have an amazing support network and I can’t wait to have my kids and family watching at games next season.”
With a wealth of experience coming to Storm Sophia said: “I hope to bring my winning mentality to the Storm training environment and help reignite the belief in the group.
“Winning my first Superleague title with Storm in 2016 is one of my favourite netball memories.”
Head Coach Mikki Austin added: “We are thrilled to welcome Sophia back home to storm.
“Having won the Superleague title here in duck egg blue before, and twice more with wasps netball – Sophia’s one of the most experience and renowned midcourters in the league and that was a key part of our recruitment strategy.
“She brings a wealth of leadership as well as a unique skillset and I’m really excited to work with her.”
