Storm Academy Wrap Up

As another season ends for our Surrey Storm Academies, we wanted to draw attention to the incredible athletes and coaches that have been working tirelessly over the last nine months!

The five Storm Academies play host to 103 athletes and 11 coaches, all of whom have been exceptionally committed to their Pathway journeys in the duck egg blue in what has been another difficult season to navigate.

Whilst match play opportunities have been limited due to Covid, it has been incredible to see the talent on display across inter-Academy friendlies and matches with some of our feeder Counties.

Positional specific training opportunities only added to selection difficulties to our U17 Competition Squad; and that is in addition to the constant feedback from the Academy Coaches celebrating their athletes’ achievements.

Following the news this week that the U17 NPL Tournament being sadly postponed, a flurry of activity to arrange friendlies with other Franchises and Club sides has ensued – keep an eye on our social media channels for results, images and updates about these games.

It is also prudent to thank our longest standing Academy relationship for their support, guidance and partnership over the last 11 years. Barking Abbey and Surrey Storm will part ways for the 2021/22 season following changes to the England Netball guidelines around the geography of athlete selection. Tracey Martin and Debbie Moore at Barking Abbey have been huge advocates and supporters of Storm for over a decade, and the Pathway quite simply wouldn’t be what it is without their input. We’d like to take this opportunity to pass on our sincerest thanks from everyone at Storm, and hope our paths continue to cross in the future.

More details about the Surrey Storm Academies for the 2021/22 season will be announced in due course.
