Storm secure U19s Championship

Surrey Storm’s NPL U19s side completed their unbeaten season last Saturday with a 48-43 Grand Final win over Manchester Thunder at Loughborough University.

The young duck egg blue side built a comfortable lead in the early exchanges as Thunder took time to bed into the game, leading 17-12 at the end of the first quarter.

Rivals Manchester grew in confidence midway into Q2, closing the gap right down to just a single goal at the halfway point (27-26).

Coaches Tallisa Haynes, Terry Tilbury and Dani Mugridge worked their magic during the half time team talk to revitalise the Storm side, who once again built a strong lead early on in the 3rd. Thunder pegged back, but the lead sat at 4 goals to Storm with just one quarter to play (39-35).

Thunder briefly brought the lead back to 2 goals in Q4, but Storm held on for a 48-43 win and secured their first U19s title, having won every match played during the regular season and finals.

The players and coaches returned to Guildford in time for the NSL game vs Wasps in the evening, and were able to show off their trophy to the Storm faithful at half time.
