Storm take home the Tom Reseigh Trophy

Storm finish the season on a high and bring home some silverware

The Storm Wasps matchup would be a game with only pride to play for as both teams looked to end their seasons on a high. It would be an emotional ending as Storm Goal Shooter Karyn Bailey finishes a 16-year long career as she announced her retirement this week.

The game was also played in memory of former Storm Team Manager Tom Reseigh. The annual fixture celebrating the life of Tom who was sadly taken from us too early in a battle with cancer in 2016.

With the Tom Reseigh Trophy on the line Storm came out with some early stops and worked the ball inside to retiring Karyn Bailey taking a 8-2 lead after 6 minutes.

Storm continued this dominant performance throughout the first quarter leading 13 – 6.

Wasps found better form to start the 2nd quarter as they played with composure on attack. Rachael Dunn netting goal after goal keeping a small deficit in the score.

However, Karyn Bailey showing out for her last game of her career with a ‘anything you can do I can do better’ mentality kept Storm on top going into the half up by 5 goals. Storm 22 – 17 Wasps.

Storm began the quarter slowing the speed of play down finding solid connections in the midcourt between Captain Yaz Cooper and Mikki Austin. After capitalising on unsuccessful phases of play from the Wasps, Storm bolstered an 11-goal lead mid-way through the 3rd quarter.

In previous games we have seen Storm crumble at this point, but the positive performance continued finishing strong and closing the quarter out 33 – 23.

With only the last quarter left to play Wasps demonstrated they were not out of this one. Intensity on defence reduced the gap between the two sides placing the pressure on Storm in the final minutes.

Wasps were on the cusp of making a come back and kept the fans on the edge of their seats until the final buzzer. On this occasion Storm walk away with the win and the Tom Reseigh Trophy to finish the season. Storm 39 – 35 Wasps.

Felisitas Kangwa was awarded with Player of The Match and commented “I feel honoured, I feel great and thanks to my teammates. It was all because of them I was able to be outstanding tonight”.
