Amy Flanagan Injury Update

Amy Flanagan Injury Update

Storm confirm injury to Captain, Amy Flanagan, during the season opener against Loughborough Lightning.

Surrey Storm can confirm Wing Defence Amy Flanagan sustained a ruptured Achilles tendon during the first minute of the second quarter in Saturday’s season opener vs Loughborough Lightning at The Motorpoint Arena Nottingham.

The injury occurred when Amy was pushing off in pursuit of an opposition player. She received immediate medical attention at the arena and following further diagnostics at Frimley Hospital accompanied by Surrey Storm Doctor Joeseph Morwood, Amy was confirmed to have ruptured her Achilles tendon.

We wish to thank the medical staff of the acute ambulance service onsite at the Motorpoint Arena Nottingham and the medical professionals at Frimley Hospital for their care and assistance.

We are also grateful to all the Storm fans and wider netball family that have reached out to Amy with kind words and compassionate messages.

Following the confirmation of her injury, Flanagan said “I’m absolutely devastated that my 2024 season looks to have ended before it really began. I’m so grateful for the support from the Medical Team both at Storm and at the Arena for their assistance.”

Head Coach and Surrey Storm stalwart Mikki Austin on the injury to Amy Flanagan, “The entire Storm franchise recognises Amy’s contribution to this team, she is a hugely influential player, and we wish her the very best for a speedy recovery. We’re so fortunate to have such a supportive community around our team and are proud to represent you every time we run on the court.”

Amy will remain a valued member of the squad in a non-playing capacity. An update will follow with further squad news and announcements.
