Surrey Storm Club Statement

It is with a heavy heart that we announce that Surrey Storm will no longer be part of the Netball Super League following the conclusion of the 2024 season. We are extremely proud of everything that has been achieved by the franchise over the last 15 years and to be part of so many players’ netball journeys from grassroots to elite level.

In October 2023, England Netball announced their plans to relaunch the Netball Super League in 2025, called “NSL 2.0”, with their vision to professionalise the league across the UK. Despite our best efforts to explore all opportunities during the tender process, the new operating standards for clubs made it unfeasible for Surrey Storm to participate in NSL 2.0.

The Surrey Storm pathway will continue to play during July and August in the summer tournaments, with the programme continuing until 1st September 2024. We are committed to competing as hard as we can for the rest of this season and working with our talented young players throughout the summer.

This is a difficult time for all those involved in Surrey Storm  and we will continue to work with England Netball and the Netball Players Association to support our players and coaches, as well as supporting our staff and community in finding the best way to continue their netball journeys.

Surrey Storm has called Surrey Sports Park home since its inception in 2009. With two Netball Super League titles from five Grand Final appearances, Surrey Storm have written their name into history. With titles coming in 2015 and 2016, Storm are one of only three sides who have won back-to-back championships. In 2023, further success was achieved, reaching the Grand Final weekend.

We remain committed to supporting netball and women’s sport, working with the local community and continuing to offer University and grassroots netball to contribute to the growth of the sport.

We are disappointed that Surrey Storm can no longer continue in the Netball Super League next season, and we wish the relaunched Netball Super League and all those involved the very best of luck for the future.
