England take Bronze at Netball World Cup

Three Surrey Storm players will return home from Sydney this week with bronze medals thanks to a 3rd place play-off victory over Jamaica at the 2015 Netball World Cup.

Both Pamela Cookey and Tamsin Greenway featured in Coach Tracey Neville’s starting 7 ahead of Sunday morning’s fixture which saw the Roses come out on top with a dominating 66-44 win.

Shooter Rachel Dunn also featured from the bench throughout the tournament, completing a strong attacking partnership seen week in, week out during the Superleague season at Surrey Sports Park.

Placed 3rd in the world, England couldn’t match the might of Australia and New Zealand, the latter being their downfall in Saturday’s semi-final.

Speaking after the bronze medal win, Storm player-coach Greenway said: “It was an exceptional way to finish the tournament. We didn’t just win, we annihilated them.

“It was on the line today. You either go home with a bronze medal or you go home with nothing.

“We’ve got to be happy, we’ve got to be proud with how far we’ve come. To play for your country is my dream and I’ve had such an amazing journey with all of my friends around me.”

Surrey Storm will return to action at Surrey Sports Park for the 2016 Netball Superleague season in January, with fixtures and tickets due to be released on Wednesday 23rd September via the official website. Make sure you are signed up for our Fans’ Newsletter to get the info in your inbox first!
