Surrey Storm are delighted to welcome Nicole Humphrys back to the Sports Park Arena for the 2020 Vitality Superleague season.
The 24-year-old, who plays both Centre and Wing Defence, joined Storm in October 2018 and made a strong impact with the team before suffering a knee ligament injury against Manchester Thunder in March.
Previously, she had gained Superleague experience with Severn Stars and Team Bath, having begun her career at youth level with Hertfordshire Mavericks.
“It’s been a long road, but I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel and I can’t wait to get back on court with the girls,” admitted Nicole. “I’m really lucky with how well I’ve been supported here, so I’m going to re-assess my targets with Mikki, and what I want to achieve, and go from there. I want to go with the flow, hit all my tests, and come back really strong, mentally and physically.
“Why would you aim for anything less than top four?” she asks, in assessing Storm’s own targets for 2020. “I think we’ve got the calibre of player, and it’s a lovely atmosphere, and that’s goes a long way in team sport. You can have all the individuals, but it’s about how you gel as a team. It’s a whole squad effort, and having a good team culture is everything.”
“I’m really happy to have Nicole back. I’ve seen first-hand how hard and tirelessly she has worked the whole way through her rehab, and I think it’s really important that she knows that she’s still such a valued member of our squad,” said Director of Netball, Mikki Austin. “We know what she can produce on court, so hopefully whenever she’s ready she gets the opportunity to produce that again.”
