Surrey Smashers’ next fixture versus Team Derby on Monday 26th December 2015 is now SOLD OUT.
For the second match-night in a row, over 1000 badminton fans will descend upon Surrey Sports Park for another night of thrilling National Badminton League action.
This marks another impressive milestone for Surrey, who currently sit top of the NBL table after two fixtures thanks to a 4-1 win over Milton Keynes and a memorable 3-2 victory against Loughborough Sport before Christmas.
Surrey looked set for match-night defeat against Loughborough in December, until Dutch women’s singles star Soraya de Visch Eijbergen pulled out a phenomenal finish to come against Bulgarian number 1 Linda Zetchiri and win the rubber with a tie-break to boost the chances of a victory for the hosts.
Captain Chris Langridge paired with Dean George to defeat Harley Towler and Peter Briggs with the final shuttlecock of the night to secure a win for Surrey, much to the delight of the 1012 fans in attendance.
Smashers coach Hayley Connor is hoping for another exciting encounter in front of a record crowd: “Some of the players said that the atmosphere at Surrey Sports Park was the best that they have ever played in. And that was created by the fans.
“We couldn’t believe how passionate and enthusiastic everyone was with every single point, especially given that it was the first time many of them had seen Smashers play.
“The new rules also make it a truly special experience for everyone involved. I for one am buzzing for match-night 4!”
If you were unable to bag tickets for the match against Team Derby then don’t fret- tickets are still on sale for our final match night of the season at Surrey Sports Park versus Birmingham Lions on Monday 27th April 2015. The match will also be broadcast live on Sky Sports, so expect an extra special atmosphere at Smashers look to secure their spot in the play-offs.
