Surrey Storm Netball is delighted to announce that our annual home tie against Wasps Netball will now see the sides do battle for the Tom Reseigh Trophy.
The event will remember former Surrey Storm Team Manager Tom, who sadly lost his heroic battle with cancer in October after being part of the squad that lifted back-to-back Netball Superleague trophies.
Tom, alongside his wife, Sarah (‘Taffy’) were the driving force behind Indoor Netball (now known as Nets). Starting as the Indoor Netball Strength & Conditioning Coach in 2010, Tom went on to manage the 2012 Men’s squad before becoming Head Coach for the Women’s team in 2013.
His tactical eye and coaching expertise led the Women’s team to a silver medal in the 2014 World Cup, followed by a historic Gold Medal for the U18 Ladies at the 2015 Aged World Cup in Australia.
The inaugural match-up between the fierce rivals, and the first ever meeting between Storm and Wasps, will take place at Surrey Sports Park this Saturday in front of a sold-out crowd.
Surrey Storm Franchise Director Gavin Baker said “With so many stars on both sides who played under Tom’s management, there was no other day that would be more fitting for us to remember Tom on.
“Tom’s passion and commitment to the sport was unrivaled. We want this annual event to be an occasion to remember him for everything he gave to netball and to celebrate his life alongside his family, friends and colleagues.”
Fans will be able to pay their respects after the final whistle, joining players, coaches and staff from both teams in a minute of applause. The Tom Reseigh Trophy will also be presented to the winning team managers and captains, and will be contested at Surrey Sports Park every season.
