Storm sign Aussie Diamond for Fast5 All-Stars Championship

Surrey Storm is delighted to announce that Australian Netballer Sharni Layton will represent Storm at the British Fast5 All-Stars Championship.

The 30-year-old defender represented the Aussie Diamonds 46 times, winning two gold medals in the World Cup (2011, 2015) and one gold medal at the 2014 Commonwealth games.

Storm will take part in the British Fast5 All-Stars Championship at the Copper Box Arena on Saturday 13 October.

The competition will see Layton join Sigi Burger, Katy Holland, Shadine Van Der Merwe in the Storm line-up along with other Storm signings coming soon.

As well as captaining the Australian Diamonds, Layton has 140 domestic caps, winning the ANZ Championship player of the year with NSW Swifts.

With two ANZ Championship premiers with Adelaide Thunderbirds in 2010 and 2013, Layton will be hoping to add the British Fast5 All-Stars Championship to her honours list.

Director of Netball Mikki Austin, who will also represent Storm at the competition, spoke of her excitement at announcing Layton.

“We are absolutely honoured to have an Aussie Diamond playing in the duck egg blue at the Fast5 competition.

“She is one of the most formidable defenders in world netball and someone the majority of netballers, including myself, have idolised.

“I know our Storm fans will show Sharni as much Storm love as possible for the time she is with us and we cannot wait to get started in our preparation and be ready to compete for that top prize at the British Fast 5 Championships.”
