Surrey Storm are delighted to return defensive pair Niamh Cooper and Charlotte Curtis

Surrey Storm is delighted to return Northern Ireland International Niamh Cooper and Charlotte Curtis ahead of the 2023 Superleague season

Niamh Cooper returns for her third season with Storm after being a key part of the leadership team last season as a vice captain to Yasmin Brookes.

Niamh will be Storms third international signing having recently performed at the Commonwealth games in Birmingham finishing in 10th place.

Last season head coach Mikki Austin signed Charlotte Curtis from Team Bath as a Storm training partner. Curtis exceeded expectation representing Storm in several games with outstanding performances.

Curtis’s ability to push the squad in training and inject herself into the team on game day when called upon has landed her a contracted position for the 2023 season.

Excited to be back with Storm Niamh commented: “I’m super excited to be re-signing for storm for the 22/3 season! The progress we made last year as a squad has shown what we are working towards and capable of and I can’t wait to see what we can achieve together this season!

Having the fans back last year was just phenomenal and they truly were an extra player at every home game, I’ve missed this over the summer and can’t wait to get back out there in the duck egg blue in front of the storm family!”

Ready to make more noise this year Charlotte said: “I’m so excited to be part of Storm this season! I think we have an incredible opportunity this year with the squad we have and so am really looking forward to see what we can make of it.

For me, I’m hoping to build on my season last year where I was lucky enough to get time on court and so want to push forward with that momentum. Can’t wait to be back playing at the Sports Park!”

Mikki Austin pleased to be bringing Nimah and Charlotte into the team commented: “After representing Surrey Storm for the last two seasons and cementing herself as a regular in VNSL, we are looking forward to having Niamh back in the duck egg blue.

A player who brings an incredibly high work ethic, relentlessness, and ability to be deadly in both attack and defence, we look forward to helping her continued development.

Chartie performed incredibly well within our environment in 2022. An athlete who constantly pushed to improve along with leading by example with her work ethic, we were thrilled to elevate Chartie into a contracted position.

She offers a specific dynamic across multiple positions in the defense end which we cannot wait to utilize.”

Welcome back Niamh and Charlotte
