VNSL season cancelled with immediate effect

Dear Storm family,

England Netball has today announced the cancellation of the Vitality Netball Superleague (VNSL) 2020 season due to the continued impact of the Coronavirus outbreak – read the full statement HERE

Since the outbreak, the VNSL Board have been continually monitoring Government and medical advice and have carefully considered various scenarios for reigniting the season, including extending the season and the option to resume the remaining season behind closed doors. It believes that concluding the season now is the most appropriate measure to guarantee the safety of the Netball Family, protect the long term future of all VNSL teams and ensure the VNSL can take necessary steps to come back in a strong position for a successful season in 2021.

As we start the process of assessing how those decisions affect all of us – the club, staff, players, volunteers, visitors, the wider community and you – we need to now, more than ever, call upon our netball community for its support through this very tough time.

With no income generation from tickets sales, coaching sessions and many other revenue streams for the entire season, we now face big challenges, in line with many other professional sports clubs.

Supporters have been asking how they can help and we hope that in this extraordinary situation our fans will stay behind us, as they always have done, and continue to be the best fans in the league when we ask for their support over coming weeks and months.

Please bear with us whilst we work through the refund process and we will be in touch with full details of what you need to do.

Despite the 2020 season coming to an end now, England Netball and the VNSL Board are continuing to review the option of a standalone short form VNSL competition or potential event in the autumn if it’s achievable and safe to do so, in a bid to provide fans with the chance to see their favourite players in action.

Finally, we would like to thank you for your understanding and all the support so far.

Stay safe and stay healthy.

Mikki Austin and the team at Surrey Storm
