Vice-Captain Yasmin Parsons has signed a new contract with Surrey Storm for the 2020 Vitality Superleague Season.
Midcourter Parsons, who last week was named as part of the 2019-20 Vitality Roses programme by England Netball, will extend her stay at Storm into a sixth year.
Having joined Storm in 2015, Yazz was a member of Storm’s 2016 Superleague-winning squad after previously winning the title with Team Bath in 2013. She has already represented England in a victorious Netball Europe Open campaign, at the 2012 Fast5 Netball World Series, and in a Quad Series in Australia and New Zealand, as well as captaining her country at Under 17 and Under 21 levels. She has also won caps for England A and won the 2012 World Universities Championships with Great Britain.
Director of Netball, Mikki Austin, said: “I’m so excited to have Yazz back in our roster this year, and beyond delighted for her becoming a full-time Vitality Rose next year. There’s no one who could deserve it more. I see first-hand all of the hours that she puts in, away from everybody else, that you don’t get any credit for.
“I’m so grateful that we’ll be able to continue to work together, and hopefully we can combine what she will learn from the Vitality Roses’ program with what she’s doing here. I think this year will be a really big year for Yazz.”
“I love this club and I love this team,” admitted Parsons. “I’ve always felt at home here, it’s really special, and the girls that are involved in it are special too. You’re not just playing netball, you’re with your friends.
“I like to show loyalty to a Club, and I feel like I owe that loyalty to Storm, because they’ve helped me to develop as a player and to be the person I am today.”
After making strong progress in 2019, Parsons sees great potential for Storm to hit even greater heights in 2020. “After what we developed last year we now want to push on and reach the top four! We were pushing those top four teams, and beating Team Bath and Loughborough Lightning were key for us. We were quite a young team, and now I’ve gone from being a young player learning from the older players to then leading the team with Katy Hughes last year.
“Each year, I feel like I’m learning so much more, and I’ve already discussed with Mikki certain targets that I want to reach this year – I always want more, and push myself to try to be better each year.”
