Surrey Storm Head Coach Kathryn Ratnapala was full of praise for her side after Saturday’s Grand Final win.
BBC Radio’s Andy Lamb caught up with her during the celebrations: “I can’t actually believe we are champions. It’s still sinking in but what an amazing feeling.
“The grit, determination and passion that the girls showed in the final quarter was incredible.
We knew that we had to come out hard against [Manchester] Thunder. If we were on the back foot from the start, then it would be hard to claw it back. They are a phenomenal side but we did our homework and it paid off.
“We had to ride it out. No buffer is a too bigger buffer in the Superleague. We just had to keep on pushing. We had four attacking contact calls in the final quarter and things like that didn’t help us but you make your own fortune and we are grateful that we could see it out.
“I’m just so proud of the girls.”
Storm’s 55-53 win over Thunder at the Copper Box Arena on Saturday evening saw them retain the Superleague title, securing their first back to back championships in the club’s history. Click here to read the full match report.
